Early Half Dollars
1794 50C O-101, T-7, High R.3, VG8 NGC. Tompkins Die State 1/2. The earlier die states are slightly less-seen than later states, although the O-101 is the only readily available 1794 variety when compared to other die pairs. This is a richly toned example with deep, gunmetal-gray toning and cobalt-blue accents that grace both sides of the coin. The rims and dentils are complete on the reverse and nearly so on the obverse. Traces of hair definition remain while the eagle's head and wings are worn smooth. A glass reveals microporosity in the fields and a few stray lines, but there are no adjustment marks or major distractions.
