Early Half Dollars
1794 50C O-101, T-7, High R.3, Fine 15 PCGS. The 1794 silver dollars and half dollars were the first silver coins produced at the Philadelphia Mint, following the copper only production of 1793 and early 1794. All of the 1794-dated half dimes were struck early the following year.
The reverse has some of the die cracks of O-101a, but lacks others on this intermediate die state. The crack from the leaf to the border through the F in OF is faintly visible, and the crack below the adjacent O is nearly invisible. There is no evidence that the second crack continues to the final S. This piece is richly toned grayish-brown with pleasing surfaces that show only a few adjustment marks and scattered post-mint defects.
