Early Half Dollars
1794 50C O-106, T-4, Low R.6, Fine 12 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 1/1. The obverse die eventually succumbed to a heavy die crack across the head of Liberty, but there is no trace of die failure on this early die state example. Shades of bronze-gold and lilac-silver cover the obverse, while a pale-gold sheen with tan accents defines the pleasing reverse. The strike is especially bold on the reverse, with nearly full feather detail on the wings and crisply struck dentils surrounded by a strong rim. A sequence of several small digs behind Liberty's head and a few light pinscratches are the sole marks of note on the obverse. The O-106 is a very scarce die pair, seldom offered much-sought by early half variety collectors.
