Early Half Dollars
1803 50C Large 3, Small Reverse Stars, O-101, T-1, R.3, AU58 NGC. Tompkins Die State 1/2. Lathe lines appear within the shield verticals. The eagle holds 12 arrows, distinguishing this O-101 variety from the other Large 3, Small Reverse Stars variant (O-102 with 13 arrows). Stone-gray toning covers the obverse, while blue and gold hues surround mostly brilliant centers on the reverse. A trace of cabinet friction has failed to meaningfully affect design detail. The right shield/wing juncture is softly struck. Pitting is noted along the lower reverse. Census (all 1803 varieties): 18 in 58, 8 finer (7/16).
