Bust Half Dollars
1830 50C Small 0, O-101, R.1, MS65 NGC. This delightful Gem half is sharply struck with frosty luster shining through areas of steel-blue, rose, gold, and lilac-gray toning. The obverse stars are sharp in the centers, and Liberty's drapery folds, hair curls, and cap are crisply defined. The top of A in STATES is vertically filled at the left edge, while the outside left is recut. Line 3 of stripe 3 extends below the shield border. A Condition Census example, as indicated in Stephen Herrman's most recent compilation of data on Bust halves, and tied for second finest for the variety (65+, 65, 65, 65, 64, 64). Census (all varieties): 24 in 65, 6 finer (5/17).
