Proof Seated Dollars
1859 $1 PR64 PCGS. OC-P1, R.1. Attractive amber-gold, electric-blue, and violet toning provides a vibrant display of color across the strongly mirrored surfaces of this near-Gem proof. A razor-sharp strike from perfect dies accompanies the Choice and colorful patina. The reverse die -- first used in 1859 -- was later used to produce proof restrikes dated 1851, 1852, 1854, and 1858. The exceptional surface quality and dazzling eye appeal of the present example suggests an even finer grade is possible. Population: 48 in 64 (1 in 64+), 15 finer (5/17).
