Proof Seated Dollars
1863 $1 PR62 Cameo PCGS. CAC. OC-P1, High R.4. Ex: Teich Family Collection. An important Civil War era issue, this 1863 Seated dollar is a splendid example with excellent field-to-device contrast. Hints of pale gold and rich blue peripheral toning enhance the silver surfaces, with fully mirrored fields and sharply defined, satiny devices. A few light field abrasions and marks determine the assigned grade. The Osburn-Cushing website (seateddollarvarieties.com) estimates that just 210 proofs survive for the 1863 issue. Population: 5 in 62 Cameo, 29 finer. CAC: 1 in 62, 16 finer (5/17).
Ex: New York Signature (Heritage, 2/2014), lot 5196.
