Morgan Dollars
1879-CC $1 MS62 NGC. VAM-5. Normal Mintmark. The 1879-CC is far scarcer than most CC-Mint issues in Mint State -- the mintage was low (just 756,000 pieces) and the issue was not heavily represented in the GSA sales of the 1970s. The present example is only lightly abraded for the assigned grade, with satiny pale-gold surfaces and a strike that is slightly weak over the ear. The VAM-5 variety is scarcer than most, slightly doubled on the obverse at 18 in the date, and on the reverse legend most visibly at U of UNITED. Spikelike die lines from the base of Liberty's nose confirm the variety.
