1901 $1 MS62 NGC. Reasonably well-struck given the limitations of the new C4 reverse, this distinctly Mint State 1901 excels in surface quality and eye appeal. We note a few light bagmarks that account for the assigned grade, but they are minimized by the attractive patina that makes this coin exceptional. Silver luster shines through a rich mantle of lilac-gray toning with reddish-orange and blue accents at the borders. The hair definition is above average for the issue, while the eagle's breast, legs, and talons show only minor blending. Any 1901 dollar is a prize at MS62, and this one has claims to an even finer assignment. NGC reports just 118 numerically finer examples (5/17).
