Classic Quarter Eagles
1839 $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. Breen-6148, Variety 21, R.3. These are the only known dies for the 1839 Classic Head quarter eagle with a total production of 27,021 coins. Survivors are elusive in high grades, with only 22 Mint State pieces certified by NGC and PCGS combined. Exhibiting satiny yellow surfaces and a trace of high-point rub, this piece offers all the advantages of a Mint State example at a lower market price. Both sides exhibit scattered marks and faint hairlines that are consistent with the grade. Census: 22 in 58, 15 finer (6/17).
