Liberty Double Eagles
1883-CC $20 MS61 PCGS. Variety 2-A. Despite the nominal mintage of 59,962 pieces, the 1883-CC Liberty double eagle is an available date in the context of the series. The 1883-CC was well-produced, and the issue is usually seen with a better-than-average strike and attractive mint luster. The relative availability and high quality of the issue makes it a favorite choice of branch mint type collectors.
The present coin is an attractive Mint State specimen, with sharply detailed design elements and vibrant mint luster on both sides. There is a diagnostic spike extending from the dentils above the E in STATES. The pleasing orange-gold surfaces show highlights of red, with the expected number of minor scuffs and scattered contact marks for the grade. Population: 68 in 61, 26 finer (5/17).
