1785 C NOVA Nova Constellatio Copper, Pointed Rays, Large Date MS63 Brown PCGS. CAC. Crosby 3-B, W-1895, R.2. The Nova Constellatio coppers were struck in Birmingham, England, and circulated in the vicinity of New York. The designs for these coppers were modeled after the 1783 pattern issues that were struck in Philadelphia. The large scale production consisted of several die varieties, initially cataloged by Sylvester S. Crosby in 1875. This Select Mint State example has full cartwheel luster on its medium brown surfaces with a small splash of steel patina on the obverse. Listed on page 56 of the 2018 Guide Book. Population: 8 in 63 Brown, 4 finer for all 1785 Nova Constellatio varieties. CAC: 2 in 63, 0 finer (5/17).
