Proof Twenty Cent Pieces
1875 20C PR64 PCGS. BF-1, R.1. This Choice proof has acquired a rich patina of steel-blue and golden-tan, which tends to hide the reflective fields that remain mirrorlike when viewed at an advantageous angle. The strike is sharp throughout both sides. The absence of die polish marks suggests an early proof strike. While the 2018 Guide Book reports a proof mintage of 1,200 pieces, the Brunner and Frost reference suggests 2,790 proofs were struck. Population: 64 in 64, 33 finer (6/17).
