In 1999, quarter-ounce Gold Eagle dies bearing the West Point mintmark should have received a mirror finish and been employed for proof coinage at the New York branch mint. This variety was struck with an unfinished W-mint proof head die. The coin is sharp and lustrous with original golden color.
