1864 Snow Hill Furnace, Charleston, West Virginia, MS66 NGC. Fuld-WV100B-5d, R.9. Ex: Alan Bleviss Collection. The extremely rare Snow Hill tokens were listed for many years as a Maryland series, since there is a Snow Hill in Maryland. Research by David Schenkman and others confirmed that Snow Hill was a salt reduction furnace firm in Charleston, West Virginia, controlled by businessman John P. Hale. All the Snow Hill tokens are listed as either R.9 or R.10, and most token collectors have never seen an example. The present Premium Gem is void of carbon or contact, and displays ample orange-gold color along with moderate tan toning.
