Liberty Quarter Eagles
1869-S $2 1/2 MS61 PCGS. Of the 225 estimated 1869-S quarter eagles extant (29,500 coins originally struck), perhaps 10 to 20 distinct examples survive in mint condition. This is one of them. The stars, date, wing feathers, and olive leaves are fully defined, while the middle curls, fletchings, and talons are moderately soft. A mix of warm yellow-gold and deeper reddish tinged hues combine over the lustrous, lightly abraded surfaces. One linear mark left of the nose is mentioned for accuracy. Population: 9 in 61, 9 finer (5/17).
