Liberty Half Eagles
1842-D $5 Small Date AU50 PCGS. Variety 7-E. Small Date, Small Letters. This Dahlonega variety is fairly plentiful in comparison to many other issues from this mint, making up about three fourths of the surviving 1842-D population, but it is conditionally scarce in AU grades. The current example offers pleasing olive-gold coloration with deeper coppery-gold tinges in the protected peripheral regions. Surface chatter on each side does not have any individually significant abrasions. Population: 17 in 50, 50 finer (5/17).
