Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles
1913-S $20 MS62 PCGS. Researcher Roger Burdette notes that the typical 1913-S double eagle is below average in strike detail, and indeed the present coin is weakly struck. Incompleteness at the torch, BERT of LIBERTY, and at the Capitol dome is matched by loss of detail at IN of the motto and across UNITED in the legend. Light stacking marks dot the peripheries. Pleasing orange-gold color and full mint luster add eye appeal. Just 34,000 pieces were struck of this popular San Francisco issue.
