ARAB-BYZANTINE: Al-Walid I (AD 705-715), AV Solidus (4.19g), Spania (Al-Andalus), Indiction date IX = 9 (corresponding to AH 92). 8-point star obverse center, rev. indiction date in Roman numerals center. This is the second known specimen of this date, which is considered the first date any Islamic coin has been minted in Spain. A-122 for type. Lovely strike, choice extremely fine. RRRR, of the highest rarity.
This is the second-known specimen, minted from the same dies used for the first-known piece, which is in lower condition and sold in Aureo & Calicó S.L. Auction 293 (lot 2123) for around $3000 USD (not including buyer's premium).
