Faustina Junior (Augusta, AD 147-175/6). AR denarius. NGC AU. Rome, under Marcus Aurelius, AD 161-175. FAVSTINA AVGVSTA, draped bust of Faustina right, with pearl headband and bun / IVNO, Juno veiled, standing left, holding patera and scepter. BMCRE (Marcus Aurelius) 111 and pl. 55, 10. RIC --; cf. 688 (Juno with peacock at feet). Cf. RSC 120 (same). Extremely rare without peacock!
The rarity of this variety without the peacock is difficult to assess; but no Faustina denarii of this type lacking a peacock appear to be have been offered at auction in 15+ year.
