Imitating Lucius Verus (AD 161-169). "Barbarous" denarius. NGC Choice XF. Unofficial mint in Rhine or Danube regions, ca. late 2nd century AD. L VERVS AVG AR-M PARTH MAX, laureate head of Verus right / [TR P?] XXI IMP IIII COS II, Pax standing left, holding branch and cornucopia, PAX in exergue. An interesting local imitation combining an obverse of Verus (cf. RIC 561) and a reverse type of Marcus Aurelius (Cf. RIC 159). With an unusually good portrait for a barbarous issue! High relief strike, lightly toned small spot of verdigris on obverse.
