Pontius Pilate 5 plate coins struck year 29-31 C. E. in Jerusalem (Hendin 1341 & 1342)
A set of 5 plate coins illustrated in the little book we published 16 years ago: The Coins of Pontius Pilate (Shangri-La 2001). All 5 coins are rare varieties. The coins #3 and 4 are minor varieties, but the coins 1, 2 & 5 are very interesting):
Coin 1: Fig. 51-52 (dated 'LIC' with a C instead of digamma. The actual letter digamma is written by error after the letters 'PO', instead of 'C').
Coin 2: Fig. 32-33 and 77-78 (retrograde lituus with enigmatic and crude letters 'LIA' on obverse and date 'LI' on reverse)
Coin 3: Fig. 98-99 (retrograde letter P at 9:00 on obverse and retrograde Z on reverse)
Coin 4: Fig. 87 (vertical letter B at 9:00 on obverse. I no longer believe the date is 'missing' as we wrote in the book, it is simply too faint on this coin)
Coin 5: Fig. 69-70 (retrograde letter P on obverse and retrograde date on reverse) Est. 700-800
