Henry VI saw the onset of the "War of the Roses" and mismanaged the Hundred Years War with France, invigorated by Joan of Arc. The salut d'or, minted in French territory while still under English control, shows medieval religious imagery in the Annunciation on the obverse and cross on the reverse.
