Constantius II. A.D. 337-361. Æ maiorina. 4.4 gm. 23 mm. Poemenius' revolt (?). Treveri (Trier) mint. Struck A.D. 353. His pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right; DN CONSTANTIVS PF AVG / Large Christogram (XP) between Alpha and Omega; A to left, ω to right; SALVS AVG NOST[R]I around, [TR]P[*] in exergue. RIC VIII 332. Sear 18083. Good Very Fine; attractive green patina, well struck, flan a bit ragged. Rare.

Sear cites RIC viii. p. 165: 332-6: Kent's attribution of this bronze issue to the revolt of Poemenius in Trier at the end of the Magnentius and Decentius regime, but suggesting that the coin could also reflect a coinage just after the revolt. In any event this is a fascinating historical piece.
