Philip V gold 8 Escudos 1703 L-H AU55 NGC, Lima mint, KM38.1, Fr-7, Onza-Unl. (cf. 219-221). A seldom-encountered early issue of Philip V, superbly preserved with bright luster in the fields and only faint friction over the central Pillars of Hercules and cross. Well-centered, the detail in the castle and lion surrounded cross and in the date also remains uncommonly sharp. An unlisted variety, with HISPAN around the legend (listed varieties include HISPA, HISPANIA, ISPA) and as such, a coin that should excite the specialist. Quite possibly from the 1715 Fleet recovery.
