Large Cents
1851 1C N-40, R.5, MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. A raised area under Liberty's ear acts as the main distinguishing marker for the Newcomb-40 variety -- one we have only offered on three prior occasions, according to our Permanent Auction Archives. The stars and other features are somewhat blunted, as made, but the date is strong. The obverse is far more red than brown, while the other side exhibits attractive violet and reddish-brown hues. Lustrous and readily appealing. Our EAC grade MS63.
