Bust Quarters
1815 25C "L" Counterstamp, B-1, R.1, AU53 NGC. Collectors who find the mysterious "E" and "L" counterstamps on 1815 and 1825 quarters intriguing have a challenging subset to acquire. Both dates are known with each mark, so a total of four coins are needed to complete the set. While different theories for their existence are too numerous and complex to discuss in detail here, it can be noted the "L" mark is scarcer than the "E" by a considerable margin -- especially on the 1815 quarters. This is an attractive About Uncirculated example with rich blue and lilac-gray surfaces, slightly worn, with sharp definition on the motifs and the elusive incuse L countermark deeply impressed.
