Colonials
1721-H 9DEN French Colonies Copper Sou, Breen-261, W-11830, XF45 PCGS. The various French colonial pieces issued from 1709 to 1722 were current in Louisiana, and in other French colonies of the early 18th century. These pieces were struck at the mints in Rouen (B Mintmark) and La Rochelle (H Mintmark) in 1721 and 1722. Because the colonist preferred silver and gold coinage, nearly all of the copper pieces were returned to France. This Choice XF example is one that was not returned, and saw light wear. Pleasing olive surfaces exhibit traces of maroon patina. Listed on page 55 of the 2018 Guide Book. Population: 6 in 45, 7 finer (6/17).
