1787 1/2 P Machin's Mills Halfpenny, Vlack 19-87C, W-7940, R.2, VF30 PCGS. CAC. The Machin's Mills coppers, coined in Upstate New York, closely resemble British coppers of the period. These imitation coppers circulated extensively in the region. In fact, they were rather poorly made, not due as much to a lack of talent on the part of the coiners, but to their design of these pieces that gained acceptance by appearing worn. Imperfectly centered and lightly worn, this piece has pleasing golden-tan and olive-brown surfaces with a few scattered, microscopic marks. Listed on page 69 of the 2018 Guide Book. Population: 15 in 30, 49 finer. CAC: 2 in 30, 5 finer (6/17).
