Colonials
1781 TOKEN North American Token, W-13980, R.2, AU58+ PCGS. The North American tokens have a close resemblance to some Canadian tokens, and they may have circulated in Canada, although it is believed that they were minted in Ireland. These pieces, popular with American colonial collectors, were struck from deliberately worn-appearing dies to simulate circulation and aid in commercial acceptance. This piece that shows only a trace of wear, if any at all, has sharper detail than the vast majority of survivors. Coins grading VF30 to AU50 are the norm for this issue. Listed on page 75 of the 2018 Guide Book. Population: 5 in 58 (1 in 58+), 0 finer (6/17).
