1786 C NOVA Nova Constellatio Copper, Pointed Rays, Crosby 1-A, W-1940, R.6 -- Environmental Damage -- Genuine PCGS. VG Details. Just over 20 examples of the 1786 Nova Constellatio copper are known today. The present piece ranks well in the top half of the known examples, and has fewer imperfections than most others. Its history is also more impressive than any of the other examples, having been known at the time Sylvester S. Crosby penned his remarkable treatise on early American coins, and used by him to illustrate the variety. Light corrosion appears on the steel-brown and chestnut surfaces of this piece that is nearly perfectly round, unlike several others that are misshapen. This is an outstanding opportunity for the advanced Nova Constellatio aficionado. Listed on page 56 of the 2018 Guide Book.
