Colonials
1787 1C Fugio Cent, New Haven Restrike, Silver, Newman 104-FF, W-17570, R.5, AU58 PCGS. The New Haven Restrikes were coined in Connecticut in the early 1860s, apparently at the hand of C. Wyllys Betts and Horatio Rust, who stated that 50 examples were minted in silver. Betts stated that he had found three sets of dies when he was 14 years old in 1858. This impressive near-Mint example has delicate gold and steel-blue toning on its rich gray surfaces with excellent aesthetic appeal. Listed on page 90 of the 2018 Guide Book. Population: 5 in 58, 14 finer (6/17).
