1793 1/2 P Washington Ship Halfpenny, Copper, Lettered Edge, Baker-18, W-10855, Musante GW-20, R.4, AU58 PCGS. CAC. Slight evidence of a 1793/2 overdate is noted at the bottom of the 3 on this and all other examples of the Ship halfpenny. This Lettered Edge variety is the usual variety according to Bowers who rates this URS-9 (125-249 pieces) and rates the Plain Edge variety as URS-3 (three to four examples). However, Musante calls both varieties "very scarce" (32-127 known). This near-Mint example has typical weakness on Washington's hair details but exhibits nearly full cartwheel luster on its lovely medium brown surfaces with traces of faded mint red. Listed on page 85 of the 2018 Guide Book. Population: 20 in 58 (1 in 58+), 10 finer. CAC: 3 in 58, 0 finer (6/17).
