1796 TOKEN Myddelton Token, Silver, W-8905, R.6, PR61 PCGS. This beautiful piece is dated 1796 and has legends of BRITISH SETTLEMENT KENTUCKY on one side and PAYABLE BY P.P.P. MYDDELTON on the other side. Boulton and Watt struck these pieces in silver and copper at their Soho Mint in Birmingham, England. Myddelton planned to create a settlement on land that he had acquired in northern Kentucky along the Ohio River but was imprisoned in London in August 1796 on the charge of enticing craftsmen to his new settlement. After more than three years in prison, his hopes were dashed. This splendid proof has lightly mirrored pewter-gray surfaces with bold details and delicate iridescent toning. Listed on page 79 of the 2018 Guide Book.
