Buffalo Nickels
1926-S 5C MS64 PCGS. The 1926-S Buffalo nickel has established a reputation for scarcity, due to its small mintage of just 970,000 pieces. The issue was not well-produced and many examples are seen with weak strikes, due to improper spacing and overuse of the dies. The 1926-S is definitely elusive in MS64 condition, and finer coins are very rare.
The coin offered here is an impressive Choice example, with a better-than-average strike that shows just a touch of softness on the bison's shoulder and the hair above the braid. The well-preserved surfaces exhibit slightly subdued satiny luster, with subtle hints of pale green and ice-blue toning. PCGS has graded 15 numerically finer examples (6/17).
