Proof Buffalo Nickels
1914 5C PR68 PCGS. The 1914 matte proof Buffalo nickel is well-known for its often outstanding quality of strike and superb eye appeal. But the issue is usually available no finer than PR67. We have handled only four PR68 coins within the last decade, and we have not offered a PCGS example in this grade since our late April 2009 Central States Signature auction, where a toned coin garnered $23,000. This piece is comparable in eye appeal and quality. Champagne-tinted matte surfaces are intricately struck and devoid of contact marks. The coin is outstanding in every respect. None are known finer. Population: 11 in 68, 0 finer (6/17).
