Early Dollars
1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Two Leaves, Silver Plug, B-1, BB-21, R.2, Fine 15 PCGS. Probably R.5 with a silver plug. The silver plug is highly visible on the obverse, but no evidence is noted on the reverse. A pleasing light gray piece with vibrant blue toning at the left obverse border. Faint hairlines are visible on each side, especially right of the date on the obverse and at the center of the reverse. There is no doubt that these were considered when the final grade was determined. Although the B-1 variety is the second most plentiful 1795 die marriage, it is quite rare with a Mint inserted silver plug. In fact, all such pieces are elusive, regardless of variety. We believe that only 35 or 40 examples of this die marriage exist with a silver plug, and possibly only 200 in total.
