Morgan Dollars
1879-CC $1 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. Normal Mintmark. This is the first really challenging issue in the Morgan dollar series and the secondmost elusive Carson City emission after the famous 1889-CC. While 756,000 coins were struck -- more than in other years at the Nevada Mint -- fewer were held back in storage. The average 1879-CC is apt to grade just shy of XF45. Mint State coins are available but expensive, that is through MS64. In MS65, they are extremely scarce and only appear at auction from time to time, putting added stress on MS64+ dollars with CAC approval, as here. Each side is frosty and brilliant with a pale almond-gold sheen. Thin marks in the left obverse field are unobtrusive.
