Morgan Dollars
1879-CC $1 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. VAM-4. The 1879-CC enjoys fame due to the elusive and popular "Capped Die" variety, designated as VAM-3. Many other varieties exist and are usually lumped into the "Normal Mintmark" category. VAM-4 is such a variety, although it is not a true "normal mintmark" since the second C is lightly recut. The variety is plentiful enough that it can be collected in high grade without the added premium that the "Capped Die" issue commands.
The 1879-CC Morgan as a date is occasionally seen in MS64 but is seldom offered finer. This Plus-graded example is frosty and brilliant with no major abrasions. There is a touch of softness on the hair above Liberty's ear, but the coin is overall outstanding on visual grounds.
