Morgan Dollars
1888-O $1 Hot Lips, Doubled Die Obverse, VAM-4, Top 100, MS62 PCGS Secure. A Top 100 Variety. VAMWorld.com comments on the popular VAM-4 Morgan dollar, which was discovered in 1963: "Exciting doubled die with two clearly defined set of lips, chins and noses. A faint second eyelid can also be seen. Very hard to find in high grade AU and ultra rare in MS."
The present coin is an impressive MS62 specimen, with well-detailed design elements that show just a trace of the usual softness on the hair above Liberty's ear and the feathers on the eagle's breast. The doubling on Liberty's profile is quite bold. The surfaces are lightly marked, under natural shades of bluish-gray and sea-green toning. The mint luster is slightly dimmed by the patina. Population: 1 in 62, 0 finer (6/17).
