Morgan Dollars
1892 $1 MS66 PCGS. The Sherman Act's mandate for increased coinage of silver dollars ended on June 30, 1891, and the Mint returned to minting Morgan dollars according to demand. The 1892 mintage was only a small fraction of the historic levels reached during preceding years, and set the stage for several of the series' most notable rarities. Just over 1 million pieces were struck.
In numeric terms, MS66 is the finest grade available to survive the 1892 Philadelphia production. Even more impressive is the tiny population at the Premium Gem level. Just six pieces are reported. This vibrantly lustrous coin is one of those few examples that top the ratings. Creamy, brilliant-silver frosted surfaces display a razor-sharp strike and only a few minuscule marks. The cheek and neck on Liberty have no meaningful marks, with only a nick beneath the eye and another below the jawline to mentioned for accuracy. Population: 6 in 66, 0 finer (6/17).
