1892-CC $1 MS65 Prooflike PCGS Secure. Ex: AFA 71. The Carson City Mint struck more coins than the Philadelphia facility in 1892, with a reported mintage of 1.35 million pieces. Many coins were released into circulation at the time of issue, while others were held in government storage and released at intervals over the next 80 years. A significant number found their way into the Redfield Hoard. Many Redfield coins were found with prooflike surfaces, so it is possible the present coin was a Redfield specimen, but no direct evidence is available.
Vivid shades of cobalt-blue, burnt-orange, lavender-gray, and sea-green toning blanket the well-preserved surfaces of this delightful Gem, with a mix of satiny luster and prooflike reflectivity underneath.
