1866-S $10 No Motto AU50 PCGS Secure. Ex: Simpson-Hall. The final issue of the Liberty eagle series before the addition of the motto to the reverse design, this example survives from a limited production of just 8,500 coins. Only the 1859-S, 1860-S, and 1864-S issues had lower mintages among San Francisco Mint No Motto eagles. Both sides of this attractive example display trivial handling marks that are typical of these early gold pieces that saw circulation in the western economy of California. None of those marks are singular, and delicate wisps of rose toning in the protected areas add to the eye appeal of this piece. An important opportunity to acquire this elusive issue.
