1878-CC $20 AU55 PCGS. Variety 1-A. A long, prominent die scratch on the neck runs parallel to the curls from jawline to just above the neck truncation, while the CC mintmark is widely spaced to confirm the die marriage. Three die pairs have been identified for the 1878-CC to produce a mintage of just 13,180 pieces, symbolic of the die usage problems that characterized the Nevada Mint.
With the second-smallest mintage of double eagles, the 1878-CC is always in strong demand by Carson City specialists.
