Liberty Double Eagles
1893-CC $20 MS60 NGC. Variety 2-A. The 1893-CC was not particularly well-saved domestically even though it was the final-year issue for the venerable Nevada Mint. Rather, many pieces were exported and, in recent decades, found their way back to collectors who were glad to have them.
This Mint State example is finer than most 1893-CC twenties that survive. Smooth fields show only a scattering of tiny abrasions and shallow lines. Marks are limited to small abrasions on the portrait and a bit of bag storage grime. Copper spotting is an often-seen characteristic of 1893-CC double eagles, but this Uncirculated example escaped without any such annoyance.
