1889-CC $1 MS63 Prooflike PCGS. About the only thing more sought-after than a Mint State 1889-CC Morgan dollar -- at least for the Morgan dollar enthusiast -- is such a coin with Prooflike or Deep Mirror Prooflike contrast. Bowers writes: "Many 1889-CC dollars are semi-prooflike, more than 25% of the survivors it would seem." Yet, most true Prooflike examples are tightly held by collectors, and seldom is an example made available to the public.
This Select Uncirculated Prooflike representative approaches rarified air among 1889-CC dollars. The fields show deep reflectivity and provide a nice backlight for the sharp, frosty devices. A noticeable degree of cameo contrast adorns both sides and there are tinges of reddish toning around the peripheries. A delightfully mirrored example of this Carson City key date, not often offered in this condition and extremely rare any finer. Population: 32 in 63 (2 in 63+) Prooflike, 8 finer (6/17).
