1892-O $1 MS65 PCGS. Although this date is not particularly elusive in grades up to and including Choice MS64, in Gem quality the situation quickly changes. In his Complete Encyclopedia, Walter Breen noted that "Gems are mostly from a single bag discovered in 1977." It is doubtful that very many from that bag would actually qualify as Gems today. This virtually untoned example has blazing luster, clean surfaces, and terrific eye appeal. While there is some softness over the ear, the strike is fuller than one would expect on a New Orleans issue.
