Bust Half Dollars
1811 50C Small 8, O-105a, R.2, AU58 PCGS. The date is oddly spaced, with 81 closer than 18 or 11. The upper crossbar extends far into the right wing, with roughness within the horizontal shield stripes below and to the left of the apex. A long circular die crack travels along the top of UNITED STA before curving downward to the scroll and beyond -- all diagnostic of O-105a. This example is brilliant at the centers with thinly distributed reddish-gold and blue patina at the borders. The strike is flat at the upper cap and on a few of the stars, but the centers are quite sharp. Die clashing is visible particularly on the reverse. Housed in a previous generation green label holder.
