Bust Half Dollars
1814/3 50C O-101a, R.2, AU58 PCGS. Popular as the sole 1814 overdate variety, Overton-101 is seldom seen in its early die state. Nearly all examples are O-101a, a later state with diagnostic obverse and reverse die cracks. Remnants of an underdigit 3 are visible beneath the primary 4 especially at the top left of the diagonal. A lengthy die crack connects the left-hand stars and crosses the cap to include the right-hand stars as well. Another bold crack underscores the date. Shades of copper-gold and blue provide a glossy, natural patina with mint luster shining through. A sharp strike exists despite multiple die clashing. Population (all O-101 die states combined): 18 in 58, 16 finer (6/17).
