Bust Half Dollars
1814 50C O-107a, R.5, MS62 PCGS. PCGS does not show a Mint State example of the very scarce O-107a but possibly a few exist, since the new numbering system is not inclusive of earlier-graded coins. This one is housed in an old blue-label holder with the barcode on the back. Mostly brilliant with gold accents, frosted, and quite lustrous, the coin shows moderate die erosion and a die chip in the crook of the N in UNITED. A second diagnostic die chip appears as a large lump on the nose (some call it a "worm") to define the O-107a die state. Crisply struck throughout from clashed and bulged dies. Unlisted as yet in the Steve Herrman census, this MS62 example is far finer than the AU55 that heads up the current listing for O-107a. We show none finer in our archives (6/17).
